Marathon Boat Group, Inc. (“MBG”) announced that David Hegel has joined the company as its Director of Sales and Marketing to implement and support the strategic growth plans of the company.
Mr. Hegel will be responsible for developing and implementing growth strategies for the company’s product lines globally while evaluating and improving the Sales and Service network. He will be based in Raleigh, NC and will report to Mr. KK Tiwari, President of MBG.

During the last 70 years, MBG has built a reputation of a world-renowned innovator, designer, manufacturer, and marketer of Canoes, Jon Boats, Fishing Boats and Pontoons under the “Grumman” and “DuraNautic” brands. David’s vast knowledge and years in the boat business will enhance the heritage MBG has already established.”
Mr. Hegel earned a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology with a concentration in Technical Sales from East Carolina University. He continued his education at Kellogg Graduate School at Northwestern University in various courses on distribution, sales, and marketing.
An avid lake and offshore fisherman, Mr. Hegel began his love of boating while growing up at his father Skip Hegel’s boat dealership in South Carolina. His boating industry career began while he was in college working at Sea OX Boats in various roles including sales as well as at the Greenville, North Carolina boat dealership B&K Marine.
In 1990, Mr. Hegel joined Outboard Marine Corporation (OMC) where he remained for nearly ten years. Among the positions Mr. Hegel held at OMC: District Sales Manager, Promotions Manager and Regional Sales Director for Johnson and Evinrude Outboard Motors. In 1999, David join the FLW Tour as Director of Sponsor Relations and helped FLW become a major fishing influencer in the boating world.
Mr. Hegel honed his brand and new product development skills after being recruited by a prominent boating industry leader into another industry. In addition to building a new sales division, Mr. Hegel lead strategic planning and new brand and product launch campaigns across multiple channels including specialty, Mass Market as well as dealer direct.
